Info für ankommende Geflüchtete/Infos for refugees/

Information for arriving refugees
It is foreseeable that fleeing Ukrainians in the EU will receive a so-called “temporary protection status”. On Thursday, March 3, 22, the Council will decide on the Temporary Protection Directive (Directive on Temporary Protection 2001/55/EC).
Ukrainians would then automatically have protection for 1 year, which can then be extended by 6 months up to 3 years. This means that those affected do not have to apply for asylum and are entitled to social benefits and access to employment.
Filing an application for asylum would initially be dispensable, but not ruled out. Those affected do not have to panic at first and can contact the welcome center of the city of Leipzig: https://english.leipzig.de/youth-family-and-community/foreign-nationals-and-migrants/welcome-centre-leipzig.
The city of Leipzig also launched a dedicated “Help for Ukraine”-Site: https://www.leipzig.de/jugend-familie-und-soziales/auslaender-und-migranten/migration-und-integration/ukraine-hilfe/
And further informations on residence in germany for people fleeing out of Ukraine are available on Jule’s Blog.
